Rémy Roe: Knowledge of Self and Learning | AfterSOF Podcast #10

In this AfterSOF episode Rémy Roe, a retired U.S. Army Special Operations Combat Medic who is currently a staff member at the Stanford University School of Medicine’s Center for Immersive and Simulation-Based Learning (CISL), joins Patrick and Daniel to discuss his journey through the Army and into academia. He spent 15 years in the army, operating across six continents and serving multiple combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. Rémy began teaching at Medical Simulation Training Centers (MSTCs) after being awarded the purple heart for injuries sustained during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). Before retiring and moving to Stanford, he served as the Senior Instructor at the largest MSTC in the Department of Defense (DOD). It was during his time there that he worked closely with the Medical Center of Excellence (MEDCOE) to develop and implement POI meant to prepare the next generation of combat medics for prolonged field care. Roe is currently a Ph.D. student studying developmental psychology and has master’s degrees in personality psychology and sociology. He currently lives in Menlo Park, CA, and enjoys hiking, traveling, and coaching Olympic Weightlifting in his spare time. We hope you enjoyed this podcast. Daniel Bell served as an Army medic for nine years, separating from the service in 2006. He deployed multiple times to Iraq and Afghanistan, as a Special Operations Combat Medic, with the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment. As a veteran, he serves on The Warrior’s Journey board of advisors and is an active life member of the Night Stalker Association, Special Forces Association, and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Patrick Brennan served as a Green Beret with 7th Special Forces Group. He earned the Combat Infantryman’s Badge during deployment in Afghanistan and separated from service in 2010. He is a lifetime member of the Special Forces Association and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
